What Is Shockwave Therapy?
Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy, commonly known as ESWT or shockwave therapy, is a cutting-edge, non-invasive treatment that uses high-energy acoustic waves to stimulate your body's natural healing processes. Originally developed to break up kidney stones, this technology has been adapted for musculoskeletal conditions and is now one of the most effective treatments available for chronic pain that has not responded to traditional therapies.
At Blue Zone Advanced Chiropractic in The Woodlands, we use shockwave therapy to treat patients who have been struggling with persistent pain, often after other treatments have failed to provide lasting relief.
How Does Shockwave Therapy Work?
During treatment, a handheld device delivers focused acoustic waves to the injured or painful area. These waves increase blood circulation, break down scar tissue and calcifications, stimulate the production of collagen for tissue repair, reduce inflammation, and desensitize nerve endings to provide pain relief.
Each session typically lasts 10 to 15 minutes depending on the area being treated. Most patients require three to six sessions spaced about a week apart. The treatment may cause mild discomfort during application, but most patients tolerate it well and experience significant improvement within a few weeks.
Conditions Treated with Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave therapy is particularly effective for chronic conditions that involve tendons, ligaments, and soft tissue. At our Woodlands office, we commonly use ESWT for plantar fasciitis and heel pain, tennis elbow and golfer's elbow, rotator cuff tendinopathy and shoulder pain, Achilles tendinitis, chronic neck and back pain with myofascial trigger points, hip bursitis, and knee pain from patellar tendinopathy. Why The Woodlands Active Community Needs Shockwave Therapy
The Woodlands is home to runners, golfers, tennis players, and fitness enthusiasts who push their bodies every day. Whether you are training on the trails at George Mitchell Nature Preserve, playing a round at The Woodlands Country Club, or staying active at one of the many local gyms, repetitive strain injuries are common. Shockwave therapy offers a way to heal these injuries without surgery, injections, or extended downtime.
The Blue Zone Integrated Approach
What sets Blue Zone Advanced Chiropractic apart is that we never rely on a single treatment modality. Dr. Mariam Mobarak combines shockwave therapy with Gonstead chiropractic adjustments, dry needling, spinal decompression, and functional medicine strategies to ensure we are treating the whole person. This means addressing not just the pain, but the biomechanical imbalances and lifestyle factors that contributed to the injury in the first place.
